Although
MOBITECH4U.com mainly consults for local small business, we do have
consulting advice for those in corporate management, executive IT
and CEO positions.
The Defective Business Model
Your IT
department can be your greatest technical asset and your weakest
link waiting to break the business.
Problems begin when your IT staff
are not knowledgeable or connected to the rest of your business, or
as they often refer to it, "Production". This is very common in
large fortune 100 corporations.
Without sharing the same level of
business understanding and process awareness as other departments,
the IT department may actually be your weakest business link. When
that finally breaks, it generally has built up over many months or
years and often results in the loss of a large client contract and
many jobs. What some IT staff may consider crafty and clever
shortcuts to save time and expense in the face of perceived demands
and stress from leadership can actually undermine the best planned
business strategies and result over time into what management calls
a "Defective Business Model".
If you suspect something is not
right with your corporate process flow, the way you thought that new
program was suppose to work, or a particular business department is
losing productivity to unusual increases in workloads that just do
not make sense, you should call in a consultant to analyze the
situation and determine if processes and actions taken by the IT
staff or IT management are working against the better interests of
the business. The sooner the better.
Hank Cranmore has experience in
this area as well as the analytical abilities to measure and report
productivity levels, process flows and just plain see obvious
capitol mistakes.
Broadcast Storms
A fundamental
fact of networks is that every networked device is constantly
sending out a "Hello, I exist here." signal. This broadcast signal
consumes network bandwidth and other resources. If you put 30 to 35
desktops onto a single router, you can bring the network traffic to
a crawl or a halt with nothing but broadcast signals. This is a
called a "Broadcast Storm".
Routers help to manage this
problem, however, recently some IT departments are adopting clever
new processes which make their jobs easier, yet they are forgetting
the simple fundamentals and opening the "floodgates", so to speak,
to allow broadcast traffic to negatively effect the business use of
a network.
Hank Cranmore has consulted with IT staff who have discovered the
best ways to setup a large network to prevent this hidden danger
from striking and to even gain additional network bandwidth and keep
network management simple.
Network Analysis
Frustration is a
network gone bad. Suddenly your network is not right, something
somewhere must have broken. Is it a broadcast storm? Is it a bad NIC
on a single desktop out of hundreds or thousands? Did a rat chew
into a cable? Why are some machines working fine and others are not?
You need to find out why and as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Time is money.
An large IT Staff without the
right tools will be seen manually disconnecting devices to try and
segment the problem. They may be crawling in dark spaces to check
the lights on hidden switches or routers. They may be under desktops
pulling cords and randomly swapping NIC's and Patch cables hoping
luck will intervene. Have you seen this happen before?
With a small business of 6 to 30
computers, Hank can do this literally by hand in a nights work.
Going desktop to desktop, drawing a diagram on paper and isolating
causes by noting how each desktop is performing until the culprit is
found.
However with a large corporate network its not that simple. The
process is the same but with so many desktops, routers and other
resources, you cannot afford the time it will take to run down every
possible cause by hand.
You need an automated solution to
speed up the process and quickly and accurately provide you with the
information you need to identify the real problem at its source.
Call now to find out what that
solution is and have it working for you almost immediately.
Specialized IT Staff and
Rollout Consulting
Is your
Corporation cutting costs like so many by outsourcing IT staffing to
temp agencies? The same people the staffing agencies are using are
the same people Hank knows. Better yet, Hank knows those that
are the best in their fields, and they all like to make extra money
when they can.
From after-hours
desktop moves and router reconfigurations to complete rollouts of
new hardware implementations. Hank can project manage and connect
you with the manpower you need.
And if you need a
company capable of a nationwide rollout no matter how large or
small, ask Hank who you should use.
